Make sure the insurance costs don’t break your bank

You have saved for a long time for this day, when you finally get your drivers license and are able to get your first car. Well, it is very exciting when you have that freedom to go wherever you want, the possibilities are endless.

Auto insurance for young drivers and first time buyers may be very expensive though. Mostly because of age and that the driving experience is not there, according to insurance companies. There are some tips to save on your car insurance like taking a driving course and bundling the insurance with cars that your parents have insured as well. But another huge determining factor when purchasing car insurance is the type of car you are driving. The more expensive the car the more the insurance will cost you. So for your first car it may be better to go for a cheaper car as opposed to that shiny sports car.

When trying to decide which car to purchase, there are two types of cars to definitely avoid; a sports car or a new vehicle. These two types will make your auto insurance premiums skyrocket. Insurance companies also look if the car you purchased is on the most stolen car list. This list comes out every year which shows the statistics of the most stolen cars in America.

Three of the most stolen models in America

1994 Honda Accord – This car is unambiguous and is easy to steal. It blends in with the average sedan and is very durable. It is also a fun to drive so thieves have special eye for these cars. If you do have one already make sure you take all the anti theft precautions and don’t leave any money or valuables in the car.

1998 Honda Civic – Just like the Accord the Civic, it is a very unambiguous car and is a lot of fun to drive even though it doesn’t look it. Make sure that you remove any valuables including a stereo face plate.

2006 Ford F-150 – This truck maybe on the list because of the sheer number of trucks sold in the US, they were one of the most popular trucks to purchase. Another reason is that thieves are able to get the key code easily for these models and are able to just use a key in the ignition to steal the car.

It is recommended to avoid purchasing one of these models as it would be a real shame if your car was stolen within the first week of getting it. It is also best to check for the most stolen car in your area and go from there.

On a more optimistic note, try looking for a good deal on some of the cars on the least stolen list like the Mercury Mariner, Chevrolet Equinox or the Volkswagen CC. These all are perfectly reasonable cars and will get you from point A to B. This list also includes higher priced models like the Audi A6 and Lexus RX 350 but again not recommended for a first time buyer as they are expensive cars and expensive cars equate to expensive insurance.

Cheap car insurance for young drivers can be found, it just depends on what type of car you would like to drive. It is also helpful to get online auto insurance quotes to determine the ball park of what the insurance will be for a young driver
